Terry Pomerantz has always placed a high value on family bonding.

He recognizes how fortunate he was to have parents for whom family ties were precious!

“Strong family ties are the foundation of self-confidence and respect for others. The Pomerantz Foundation allows our family to contribute to the strengthening of the ties that bind together each of the people who make up the great social family of Quebec.”

Why strengthen our family ties?

It is more than important to cultivate strong ties with all members of our family. Cohesion activities avoid the need for family therapy because family ties have been allowed to dissolve due to lack of attention.

Family cohesion activities, most of which are very simple, promote a caring dialogue between spouses, children and grandparents.

These family cohesion activities encourage the spontaneous expression of affection and create the bonds of trust that are the basis of any relationship.

It is this sense of family security that allows children to discover how to turn failures into learning opportunities and how to replace the fear of failure with self-confidence and boldness.

There are several cohesive activities a family can consider to maintain strong family bonds.

Of the dozens of family cohesion activities that can be imagined, the Pomerantz Foundation suggests 5.

  1. Have meals together as often as possible. It’s a chance to take a break from work, school, cell phones and TV to talk.
  1. Do daily activities together such as housekeeping, meal preparation and grocery shopping. With the kids, let’s approach these activities in a playful way rather than as “tasks”. Children will easily get into the game.
  1. Do family sports activities that involve children and grandparents. Remember that most grandparents are not always that old! Sports such as biking, hiking, bocce, bowling and swimming are perfect for this.
  1. Sharing family memories is another easy family bonding activity. Parents and grandparents have memories and so many stories to tell the kids! By doing this, we are also passing on family values.
  2. Play board games. In recent years, board games have made a comeback and are increasingly popular with both youth and adults. There are memory games, cooperative games, intrigue games and knowledge games that can be great fun to play as a family.

A word from Terry Pomerantz

By giving them the opportunity to improve their social status, the specialized organizations we support reignite in these individuals the pride of being extraordinary people who walk with their heads up and look life straight in the eye!”
