  1. Consult a doctor or a specialized nurse practitioner to obtain a medical certificate confirming burnout.
  2. Quickly notify your employer and provide them with a copy of the medical certificate.
  3. If the benefits offered by your employer do not cover the entire period of your medical leave, file a claim with CNESST as soon as possible.
  4. Based on the documents you provide, CNESST will determine if you are eligible.
  5. You will need to undergo all requested medical exams and follow all prescribed treatments by your healthcare professional.
  6. If CNESST recognizes that you are unable to perform your job due to burnout, you will be entitled to income replacement until CNESST determines that you can return to work.

To help someone experiencing burnout, it is important to adopt a multidimensional approach that emphasizes the person’s ability to heal themselves while reducing stress factors in their work environment. It is important to:

  • Recommend the person to a competent resource that will help them develop their own coping strategies.
