A donation that turns on smiles for sick kids
For 12 years, the Pomerantz Foundation has been organizing a spectacular golf tournament at the Saint-Raphaël Golf Course in Ile Bizard. Over the years, the unwavering generosity of participants have allowed it to raise more than $2,000,000 that were donated in full to the organizations supported by the Foundation.
“This year, we have donated a portion of the profits generated by our 2019 Golf Tournament to the Starlight Children’s Foundation”, says Terry Pomerantz, primary administrator of the Pomerantz Foundation.
A new medication for sick children
This medication is called laughter! It’s the multiplication of the touching smiles of hundreds of seriously ill children, a magic and contagious drug that also contaminates their whole family!
Yes, the Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada’s mission is to “create priceless smiles and memories for seriously ill children and their families”.
Starlight provides its numerous programs both in and out of hospitals.
The magic of Starlight programs
To spread joy and magic in the life of these kids who suffer from serious illnesses, often incurable, Starlight has created several in-hospital and out-of-hospital programs.
Among the numerous services provided by Starlight in hospitals, let’s mention the:
- Starlight Hospital Happenings with clowns, sweets, games and costumes;
- Starlight Fun Center, a mobile entertainment unit with a flat screen TV, a Nintendo Wii U gaming system, an internet connection and many games;
- Starlight Sites, beautifully designed playrooms giving the kids a space for toys, crafts and laughter with friends.
Starlight out of hospitals
Just because a child leaves the hospital, it doesn’t mean that the battle is over.
Starlight’s out-of-hospital programs grants wishes of all kinds to seriously ill children, such as spending the day with an artist they like, attending a sporting event or participating in a Starlight Great Escapes Wishes like skiing in the company of qualified instructors or going to summer camp.
The Starlight volunteers at the Golf Tournament
This year again, many Starlight Canada volunteers joined with Sun Youth volunteers to lend a hand to the organizers of the Pomerantz Foundation’s golf tournament. Their enthusiasm and professionalism have greatly contributed to the success of the 2019 tournament.
