Terry Pomerantz and the Pomerantz family Foundation!

Giving forward, giving to children

Saül Pomerantz, Terry’s father, started at the bottom of the ladder. Sailor, then taxi driver. He rubbed shoulders with these struggling families and children, pulled under despite all their efforts by sickness or poverty. Saül Pomerantz, the highly successful entrepreneur, has always seen it as a duty to help people in need, and especially children.

A foundation to help children

Saül creates the Pomerantz Foundation in 1991. One of the first achievements undertaken by the Foundation was Pomerantz House, a building housing a school that provided free Hebrew lessons for children. Following this first step, the Pomerantz Foundation also supported Sun Youth as well as several other non-profit organizations involved in the education, health and well-being of children in need.

Terry Pomerantz gets involved

Terry was involved in the family foundation since its creation. In 2019, he handed over the management of his companies to devote all his time to it.

Under his leadership, new players are added to the original core of non-profit organizations supported by the Pomerantz Foundation. Among these, let’s mention:

  • The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation;
  • The Center for Child Development and Mental Health of the Jewish General Hospital;
  • Starlight Canada is dedicated to creating priceless smiles and memories for seriously ill children and their families;
  • Miriam is helping children and adults with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities;
  • Yaldei offers a diverse range of services to help children with developmental challenges reach their full potential;
  • Mira offers free guide dogs and service dogs to people living with visual impairments and physical disabilities and to youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder;
  • Dans la rue helps homeless and at-risk youth;
  • The West Island Women’s Centre is dedicated to improving the quality of life of women in the West Island, without regard to age or socio-economic background.

Donations of over $5,000,000

“A child is completely powerless in the face of his parents’ economic circumstances,” says Terry Pomerantz. “We believe that our family’s Foundation has a responsibility to help children from disadvantaged families.”

Thanks to various donations from businesses and private individuals as well as fundraising activities, since its creation, the Pomerantz Foundation has donated over 5 million dollars to more than 30 non-profit organizations.

The Pomerantz Foundation is managed by volunteers who are not receiving any pay or other compensation. Their commitment and dedication completely free the Foundation from management and operational costs it should normally incur in its running. Therefore, all donations it receives are given in full to the non-profit organizations it supports.

Pomerantz Foundation’s Golf Tournament

Among their fundraising activities, the Pomerantz Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament is their most important event.

In the last few years, this event has helped raise more than $2,000,000, which were donated entirely to organizations supported by the Pomerantz Foundation.

Next August 22, Terry will welcome all participants to the Pomerantz Foundation’s 2019 Golf Tournament, taking place at the prestigious Saint-Raphaël Golf Course located in Ile Bizard.
